Montetino
Harmony Between Wine and Nature

Montetino
A place where passion for wine merges with respect for our land. Here, every bottle tells a story of tradition and innovation.

Located in a unique area of Abruzzo, our winery, Montetino, stands out for its dedication to restoring and preserving vineyards.
A project born at the end of 2020 from the encounter between Marco and Benedetta.

Who are we
Benedetta and Marco, the Heart and Soul of Montetino

Marco, with his passion for nature and craftsmanship, and Benedetta, with her academic background in viticulture and enology, are the soul of Montetino. Their journey began with a summer dinner and evolved into a shared project celebrating the land, viticulture, and friendship. Their diverse experiences intertwine to create wines that embody love, knowledge, and deep respect for nature and winemaking traditions.

Our Territory
We are in Celano, in the Abruzzo Apennines, nestled within the Sirente-Velino Regional Park and just steps away from the Abruzzo National Park.
A distinctive land where biodiversity and microclimate play a crucial role.

Here, the climate is heavily influenced by mountain currents, and the altitude is a key factor in ensuring a unique grape maturation process, thanks to the significant temperature variation between day and night. The soil, rich in minerals, limestone, water, and organic matter, creates ideal conditions for producing wines that truly reflect their territory. This is a place where nature is safeguarded and protected—an unspoiled environment that is mirrored in the freshness and authenticity of our wines.

Our Vineyards
A Project of Preservation and Protection
Our winery spans nearly two hectares of vineyards, consisting of small plots acquired from local elders, planted between the 1970s and 1980s.

The vineyards face south, at altitudes ranging from 700 to 750 meters above sea level. The soils are predominantly composed of clay, sandstone, limestone, and blue marl. Each vineyard has its own story, and we treat them with the utmost care they deserve. Many of our plots also host fruit trees, which enrich our agricultural ecosystem. To further enhance biodiversity and soil organic matter, we use biodynamic preparations, plant cover crops, and carry out only superficial soil work. For vine protection, we rely solely on natural protective treatments.

The Winery
Biodynamic Farming and Spontaneous Fermentation
In the winery, as in the vineyard, no chemical agents are used, and we operate in full respect of the lunar cycles.

We like to think that all the hard work happens during the growing season, and the harvest is simply the joy of working with perfectly ripe and healthy grapes. The grapes are hand-harvested and processed with great care to maintain the integrity and quality of the skins. Fermentation is strictly spontaneous, allowing the fruit, terroir, and vintage to express themselves freely. Choosing concrete vats for winemaking was a crucial decision, as they help preserve the purity and essence of the wine while avoiding thermal shocks and external influences. This material allows our wines to evolve naturally, expressing their character in the most authentic way. No filtration, no fining.

Our wines
Our white wine, made from Trebbiano d’Abruzzo grapes, blends the varietal essence with the characteristics of the terroir in which it is cultivated. The grapes, destemmed and pressed, remain briefly in contact with the free-run juice. The result is a wine full of light and energy, balancing the elegance of the fruit with a vibrant aromatic profile. High acidity, complex, long-lived, and deeply expressive of its origins.
Our rosé, made from Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes, is a true expression of our region. Thanks to brief skin contact, it acquires an intense color and rich aromatic complexity. It emerges as an extraordinary interpretation of high-altitude Cerasuolo, a wine that embodies both lightness and balance—combining the challenge of its unpredictable nature with the unique expression of our terroir.
Our high-altitude Montepulciano is an icon of territorial identity. The grapes are carefully hand-destemmed to preserve the integrity of the skins as much as possible. Characterized by remarkable freshness, it promises to reveal extraordinary surprises in the years to come. Long-lived and structured, it represents the essence of our region with its distinctive character and verticality, a testament to its excellence. This red wine is never static; it constantly evolves—maturing in both barrel and bottle—until it finally reveals itself in the glass, offering a tasting experience that is always in motion.
